Preface

This is the first Space Syntax Symposium hosted in Asia. There were many concerns initially: the timing is different to previous Symposia, the period since the last is shorter and travel to Korea will be expensive for many of the community. To our surprise, however, 261 abstracts from 40 countries were originally submitted for this Symposium in such a short time period. After the four months of referring and editing processes, what we have come up with here in the Proceedings are 112 Long and 15 Short Papers. Special thanks should go to the reviewers for their painstaking works, and in particular, to the authors without whose participation this Symposium would not have been possible.
As in the previous Symposia, the Proceedings of the 9th International Space Syntax Symposium consists of a printed book containing all abstracts and an accompanying CD with all full-length papers. All papers can also be downloaded here, which are listed by their corresponding themes and paper reference numbers. Short Papers are also listed under the corresponding themes, at the end of the list. So, if you want, you may print papers you are interested in and bring them to the Symposium for yourself.
All registered symposium delegates will get the Proceedings on-site, and after the Symposium it will be also possible to order the printed publication (including CD). We would like to remind that all the papers in the Proceedings should always be referenced as part of the Proceedings as one publication.
We look forward to seeing you all soon in Seoul.
